MDAO 30th Anniversary Event

I reached out last night and headed to the Mood Disorders Association of Ontario to meet people and network. I was pleased to shake the hand of Anne Murray, Director of MDAO who was pleased to have me call her back and set up a meeting. I also met Michael Landsberg, well known Canadian broadcaster, who is happy to help “spread the word” for us. In addition, they were working on having people tell their stories for a website called the “ripple effect”. Of course I jumped at the opportunity. I will post up the video as soon as it is live. I’m loving that people are so receptive when they hear we offer DBT to anyone who wants to learn it and not just to persons with BPD. Laughing like Crazy, a comedy event with persons with mental health challenges doing stand up comedy was there with a few of their comedians. One had joke about the struggles of getting into a DBT program. She said that her psychiatrist told her she needed Dialectical Behaviour Therapy however she would need a diagnosis of BPD before she could get it and would not give her that diagnosis. So, she went to another psychiatrist after goggling all the symptoms of BPD in order to pull off getting diagnosis. Should this be happening? Really? We know that DBT is good for persons with bipolar, depression, anxiety, addiction etc. I hope one day people can get it freely no matter whether they have a label or not. DBT for all!
